Château Charmail is widely regarded as one of
the finest Crus Bourgeois – “this consistent
overachiever usually competes with some
classified growths” (Robert Parker). Great value
compared to those bigger names too, and even
more so with this £9 a bottle saving.
Made by top winemaker Hubert de Boüard,
of St-Emilion’s Château Angélus fame, the 2017
is beautifully elegant with mellow red fruit, floral
notes and a supple texture. Just 160 cases.

of Louis XV. Today it’s one of the

Château Pape Clément is one of the oldest
Grands Crus and takes its name from former
owner Pope Clément V. Today it’s the flagship
estate of Bordeaux legend Bernard Magrez, and
no expense is spared on these exalted wines.
Le Prélat is made to be more accessible than the
Grand Vin (which scored a huge 99pts in the
excellent 2018 vintage) but with the same lavish
care. A rich, opulent style, typical of this estate,
with ripe berry fruit, chocolate and spices.
