LOBO E FALCÃO CENTENÁRIO, TEJO
From Portugal’s 250-year-old Quinta do Casal Branco in Tejo,
just an hour’s drive from Lisbon, we have José Lobo’s dark,
chocolatey Centenário red. It’s from his oldest vineyard that,
dotted with equally ancient olive trees, defiantly breaks the
rules! All the grapes, a field blend of mostly Castelão, are
trodden by foot in the stone lagares and the wine aged in
barrel. Velvety with dark damson fruit and mocha spice.

IL CORTO, TUSCANY
We’ve known Paolo and Anna Rita Masi at their beautiful,
third-generation estate since the 1990s (do go and visit – they
have apartments to stay in too!). It lies in the Rufina district of
Tuscany, high in the hills, overlooking the Argomenna Valley.
Their top wine is the single-vineyard Il Corto – a superb
Sangiovese and Cabernet Super Tuscan, aged in barrel. Dark
cherry, plum, chocolate and spice; delicious now and a keeper.

SELVAROSSA DEI CONFRATELLI
RISERVA, SALENTO
In 1989, Angelo Maci set up the Cantine Due Palme cellar in
southern Italy’s Salento region – his mission, to rescue the
livelihoods of the region’s growers. He started with 15 members,
but today that number has grown to a thousand. Each is very
proud of their vines and their finest grapes go into this special
Riserva, with its velvety black fruit and toasty vanilla length.
