Violette de Mireval is a bona fide cult hit. Since
its launch, it’s been a go-to for members looking
for thirst-quenching pinks from beyond the
boundaries of Provence, France’s rosé hotspot.
They don’t have to go far – a hop to the
scenic countryside around Toulouse, known
as La Ville Rose (the pink city) due to the
gorgeous hue of the local building stone.
But this historic city (well worth a visit for
its cuisine and stunning setting on the
Garonne river) is also famed for
making fine rosé from Négrette, a
little-known local grape that loves
the warm, dry climate inland
from the Mediterranean.
Just the place, then, for star
American winemaker Nicole
McPheeters to settle and make
this versatile rosé. Hugely
refreshing, it’s equally at home in
the patio ice bucket as it is served
with mildly spicy Asian dishes.
Dry, with vibrant aromas of red fruits,
strawberries and cream, and hints of
exotic fruits and citrus – for £8.99 a bottle.
